Arrivals and Occupancy Continue To Climb on Lanzarote

The number of tourists visiting Lanzarote and booking hotels and apartments on the island continued to rise last month. According to the latest data just released by AENA, the Spanish airport authority and ASOLAN, Lanzarote’s hoteliers association. With foreign tourist arrivals climbing by 16.68% and occupancy levels hitting 83% during March.
Lanzarote’s tourist sector continued to enjoy a positive stat to 2011 last month. As the number of foreign tourist touching down at Arrecife airport rose once again, up by 16.68% versus March 2010. Thanks in part to recent events in the Middle East, which forced many holidaymakers to seek out alternative destinations, such as Lanzarote and the Canaries.
This increase in arrivals during March had a beneficial impact on the islands accommodation sector. As occupancy levels in Lanzarote hotels and apartment complexes climbed to 83%, up by 8% versus March 2010. With the resort of Playa Blanca outperforming Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise, with 87.7% of beds filled. Reports from the independent accommodation sector also suggest that demand for privately owned Lanzarote villas remained high last month as well.

A total of 431,071 foreign tourists have now enjoyed holidays in Lanzarote during the first quarter of 2011. Making the island the fourth most popular destination in the Canaries after Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. Whilst collectively the Canaries welcomed 2.825.900 foreign tourists during the first three months of this year.
