March 2011 – ‘Spectacular’ month for tourism

A total of 1,025,000 tourists visited the Canary Islands during March 2011, an increase of 21.75% over the same period last year (March 2010) which the Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Canary Islands, Ricardo Fernandez de la Puente, described as ‘spectacular’. Tourism in the Canaries in the last twelve months has risen by 18% (more than 445,000 people). He went on to say that airline seat availability for the Canary Islands for summer have increased by 1,100,000 places. He said that tourist arrival predictions for April is expected to be ‘very good’ and that during the four day Easter holiday it is expected that many establishments will be full and the rest of the week is also expected to show good occupation levels.
