300 cancelled flights in one day in the Canaries

300 flights were cancelled yesterday (Sunday 18/04/2010) in the Canary Islands due to the volcanic ash from the Icelandic volcano eruption. 125 flights were cancelled in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 176 in the province of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria which has left the Canary Islands completely isolated from most of mainland Europe. Some flights, however, were able to leave the islands and land in mainland Spain.
