Unemployment increases in the Canary Islands

Unemployment in the Canary Islands reached 266,213 people in November (2011), a figure which represents an increase of 7,949 (+3.08%) over the previous month of October (2011). The interanual variation amounts to +3.71%, meaning that in November this year there are 9,520 more unemployed people than the same month of 2010, according to the Ministry of Labour, Government of Spain. The average number of Social Security affiliated members in the Canary Islands currently stands at 681,454 which represents a decrease of last month (October 2011) of 4,421 (-0.64%) and a yearly decrease of 4,522 (-0.66%).
