Used car sales increase in the Canaries

The sale of used cars in the Canary Islands has increased by 6% between Januaryand September this year compared to last year (2010). According to industry data, dealers in the Canary Islands sold, up to September 2011, a total of 53,995 used cars. The tendency of the islands is to buy a car between five to ten years old. The secretary general of the Association of Car Sales Las Palmas (Avivo), Fernando Gonzalez, said yesterday that these sales have generated a turnover of €290 million and indicated they expect to top the €300 million which was achieved last year. Nationally, the Canary Islands represents 4.4% of sales in this sector.

Gonzalez noted that the ratio has improved Archipelago Spanish, as in the islandsfor every new vehicle sold equipment 2.28, compared with two national average. “If this continues to 3%”, stated the Secretary of Avivo, who felt that the “difficulties of access to credit” are causing a higher demand for used cars. Canary with this newratio is equated to the markets of Germany and France and British approaches, which sell more than three used cars new one.
