Airport bans use of drones in weevil fight

Officials at Alicante-Elche airport have blocked plans to use drones in an effort to fight a weevil infestation that threatens palm trees.

Now a company that has pioneered the use of drones to spray the trees with pesticide have said that it could be an effective solution to prevent the outbreak. However airport authorities have said that there is too much of a risk involved with flying the remote-controlled aircraft in Elche, which borders onto the airport.

Now discussions are ongoing, after a custom-built drone was presented at a show held recently in Abanilla.
