Seven die in Los Cristanos building tragedy

Seven people lost their lives in Thursday’s building collapse in Los Cristanos in Tenerife.

Three people were injured in the collapse, two of them seriously.

Over 200 emergency personnel worked around the clock in an effort to find those trapped in the rubble of the building. Sadly no survivors were found after the apartment block collapsed on Thursday morning. Over 80 people were evacuated from nearby buildings, with many spending the night in temporary accommodation or with family.

Today is the last day of three days of mourning declared across the Canary Islands. Now an investigation is to begin to determine the cause of the collapse.
