Canarian minister faces calls to resign

A senior Canarian minister in the Spanish government is facing calls to resign after his name emerged in further revelations in the so-called Panama Papers scandal.

José Manuel Soria is said to have led a company that took part in tax avoidance by being based in a tax haven.

Whilst he was not involved in the business when in politics, he is now facing pressure to resign following a statement last week from him saying that anyone named in the financial scandal should resign.

The minister issued a statement this denying any involvement with offshore arrangements and has sent an urgent request to the Panamanian authorities for documents that will clear his name.
