Two British women die on Tenerife beach

Two British women, aged 43 and 40 years old, have drowned after being swept away on a beach in the area of Playa Paraiso on the south coast of Tenerife. They were amongst 5 people in total, including three children that were caught by a strong tide and swept away.

The incident happened at around 6PM yesterday (Sunday, 6th April 2014) when three women and two children, all foreign nationals, were washed away while swimming in Playa Paraiso (Adeje). Once the emergency services were contacted, a GES helicopter was dispatched along with other medicalised aircraft and two basic life support ambulances.

One of the women was rescued from the sea by the helicopter while the other victim received resuscitation but died of a cardiac arrest. The third adult, aged 38, was resusitated and transferred to the Hospiten hospital. The children (aged 10 and 14) suffered from hypoglycemia and mild hypothermia and were also transfered to the Hospiten hospital.

Several swimmers along with a lifeguard were the first to act on the scene along with two fishermen who rescued two women and two children.
