Gran Canaria airplane crash report a ‘false alarm’
The report of an airplane crashing into the sea off the coast of Gran Canaria was a ‘false alarm’ and misreported throughout the day in various Spanish media outlets.
The emergency services received a call from witnesses claiming that they ‘saw a plane floating in the water’ and even gave specific details claiming that it was a TUI aircraft.
AENA, Spains air authority took the report seriously and investigated the report by immediately dispatched the emergency services, only to find that what the witnessed though to be an aircraft floating on the sea surface turned out to be a tug boat which ‘looked’ like and airplane and was sailing near the area of Gando where the Gran Canaria airport is located.
