Delays for Gran Canaria beach weddings
Despite being welcomed and encouraged by most of the hospitality businesses in the south of Gran Canaria including hotels, tour operators and local businesses, the ‘Directorate General of Coasts’ or ‘Costas’ is still refusing to allow couples to be married on the beaches of the south of Gran Canaria.
The city of San Bartolomé requested the permission from ‘Costas’ over two months ago but the request has not yet been authorised.
As part of the proposal, four beaches that belong to the municipality of San Bartolomé are to be converted to cater for weddings but as yet ‘Costas’, who has the competence to authorise the coastal strip for this type of social events, has failed to respond to the initiative promoted by the City of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
José Carlos Alamo, who is responsible for beaches in the area, has said that he ‘does not know’ why no one has answered yet but ‘maintains his enthusiasm for realising the dream of those who want to get married ‘on the beautiful beaches next to the waves’.
