Tenerife confirm increase in winter bookings

Following our recent news of  the Gran Canaria council securing deals with Thomson and First Choice Fly at the World Travel Market in London, Tenerife council has now also confirmed that it has increased reservations for British tourism by up to 15% for the winter season (which includes October to April).  As for the outlook for the 2012 summer season, the islands of minister of tourism, Carlos Alonso, said in a press release that must ‘still be cautious’ although the data suggests that the numbers of British tourists could also increase this season.

After attending the World Travel Market in London, Mr. Alonso reported that in the first nine months of 2011 Tenerife has received 1,235,000 British tourists, a cumulative growth in the year around to 13 percent. The minister expressed his satisfaction at ‘the high expectations of visitors from the UK’.  He also announced that the council has signed an agreement the network of British travel agents ‘Travel Counsellors’, for a duration of nine months and aims to increase the number of tourists ‘from the middle and upper class of the UK’. The Tenerife delegation present at the fair also have contacts with over 30 tour operators, airlines and professionals present at the fair like TUI, Thomas Cook, Prestige Holidays, Easyjet, Monarch and Jet2 Arilines.
