Lanzarote close beaches again due to ‘massive jellyfish’

The Tias City Council has raised the red flag on the ‘Pila de la Barrilla y Blanca’ beaches, better known as ‘Playa Chica’ and ‘Playa Grande’ respectively, which are located in the tourist area of Puerto del Carmen. This means that there is a bathing prohibition sign due to the presence of massive presence of jellyfish in the water. The beaches of Matagorda and Los Pocillos currently remain open as the municipal services have not detected the presence of jellyfish, whose sting can be dangerous to the health of people. It has, however, raised the yellow flag on these two beaches to exercise caution to the swimmers. Municipal services remain alert  in case they have to hoist the red flag in any other town or beach.
