Canary Island tourism on the increase

The number of foreign passengers arriving by plane to the Canary Islands in September 2011 increased by 17.55% over the same month of 2010. The increase is even higher when analyzing the cumulative number of arrivals in the first nine months of this year, in which the islands were visited by 7,487,732 foreign passengers 22.11% more than the same period last year in 2010.

The largest increases were recorded in Tenerife and Lanzarote. Tenerife received 279,917 foreigners in September 2011 (+25.52% on 2010) and Lanzarote (+17,5%). So far this year, Tenerife has received 2,725,135 foreign passengers, an increase over the same period in 2010 of 24.19%, and Lanzarote 1,285,479, an increase of 17.72%.

Gran Canaria in September received 176,012 foreigners, an increase over the same month of 8.21% while Fuerteventura received 139,882 passengers, an increase of 16.16% more than in September 2010.
