Earthquake measuring 4.4 on Richter scale hits El Hierro
After a slightly quieter few days on El Hierro, the largest earthquake to hit the island happened last night (8th october 2011) at 21:34 local time, which measured 4.4 degrees on the Richter scale, this time the quake was felt by the whole island. The movements appear to be getting closer to the coast of the island and at less depth. Details of this earthquake are as follows:

The representative of the IGN (National Geographic Institute) said that this was ‘expected’ and says there are likely to be more of a similar magnitude in the coming days.
