Over 94.000 Canarian households live on less than €380 a month

In a recent survey released by ISTAC, it is shown that 94,909 households in the Canary Islands are having to survive on an income of less than €350 per month, of which, 15,885 have to make do with much less, just €180 per month. The survey, which was carried out in February 2011 among more than 536,000 homes, in Tenerife 7,374 families each month receive an income that does not exceed €180 euros, in the case of the island of Gran Canaria this figure is reduced to 6.582 households. In the smaller islands, the first position is occupied by La Palma, with 885 families with monthly incomes below 180 euros. This study also shows that about 95,000 Canarian families attempt to get through each month with incomes ranging between €180 and €350.

By island, the following households survive on less than €350 per month. Tenerife has 45,143 households, Gran Canaria has 37,760, La Palma has a total of 5,984 households, Lanzarote has 2,933 households, Fuerteventura has 1,339, La Gomera has 976, and El Hierro has 774 households.

Households with incomes between €600 and €780 in the Canary Islands are as follows:

35,219 live in Tenerife and 41,308 in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote has 6,963, Fuerteventura has 4,366, La Palma has 3,622, La Gomera has 1,071 and El Hierro has 533 households with an income of less than €780.

There are 15,637 households in Gran Canaria which have an income of over €1,380, in Tenerife this figure is 14,192 followed by Fuerteventura with 3,684 households, Lanzarote has 2,108, La Palma has 632, La Gomera has 211, and El Hierro has 87 households on this income.
