More flights and passengers during August 2011
August 2011 is to begin with more flights and passengers travelling through the Canaries airports. There is also good for the tourism sector’s profitability. Spending by foreign tourists increased by almost 15% in the islands during the first half of 2011, to just under €5,000 million. AENA airports press release explained that Gran Canaria’s airport will see an increase of 7.2% while Tenerife South’s Reina Sofia airport will see an increase of 9.8%. The positive figures in the sector are also transferred to profitability. According to data of the Tourism Expenditure Survey (Egatur) of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, the total expenditure by international tourists in the islands amounted to €4.925 million in the first semester of 2011, representing an increase of 14, 9% over the same period last year 2010.
