Foreign Tourist Arrivals Climb 23% on Lanzarote

The number of foreign tourists arriving on flights to Lanzarote from across Europe soared by just over 23% last month, according to the latest information just released by ISTAC, the Canarian Institute of Statistics. As Lanzarote and the other Canary Islands benefited from the fallout in the Middle East, as holidymakers switched away from destinations such as Tunisia and Egypt.
The biggest percentage increase by far was recorded in the German market, Lanzarote´s second largest. As arrivals there soared by a whopping 65%. Whilst the number of British tourists enjoying a holiday in Lanzarote also rose by just over 9% last month versus February 2010 figures.
Overall, Lanzarote welcomed a total of 170,141 tourists in February, comprised of 151,860 foreign visitors and 18,281 Spanish holidaymakers. With the latter market declining year on year by just over 25%. Whilst arrivals from Eire also fell by nearly 5%.
