Average tourism spend increased in 2010
The average amount of money spent by tourists in Spain increased by 2% in 2010 (reaching €49.000.000.000) following a drop of 6.7% in 2009. However these figures are still below those of 2008 and did not reach the increase level expected for last year mainly due to a poor December because of weather conditions in the main tourism origins in Europe and the air traffic controllers strike that saw the airspace closed for 24 hours during December. the average spend per tourist rose by 1.1% to €932 while the average daily spend also rose by 2.8% to €98/tourist/day.
