Spain value losses over air controllers walk out at €500 million

Spain are putting a value of €500.000.000 on the cost to tourism and the airline companies, after the AENA air traffic controllers staged a walk out on Friday 3rd December 2010 causing the airspace in Spain to shut down from approx. 19:00 on Friday. They have stated that it is yet to early to give an exact figure on the incident which left Spain no option but to call in the military to take over the airspace traffic.
Meanwhile, Tenerife have gone on to claim that the walk out has caused a loss of income of over €1.000.000 per hour during the walk out which affected 45.612 passengers on this island. Over 6.000 passengers were offered overnight accommodation.
