Lanzarote Occupancy Levels Up 7% In May

The number of tourists staying in Lanzarote hotels and apartment complexes rose by 7% last month – despite the chaos caused by the Iceland volcanic ash cloud. According to the latest figures just released by Lanzarote´s hoteliers association ASOLAN.
The ASOLAN statistics reveal that occupancy levels climbed by 7% last month versus May 2009 figures. As 56% of the island´s tourist beds were filled – with four star and apart hotels performing particularly well.
However this upswing must be viewed in context – as May 2009 was the worst month ever recorded for occupancy levels on Lanzarote. As the economic crisis bit deep at that time and just 49.10% of the island´s tourist beds were filled during that month as a result. And occupancy levels in May 2008, before the economic crisis hit, reached 63.23%. Some 7% head of this May´s figure.
