Yet another total power cut for Tenerife
It is the second power cut to leave the whole island of Tenerife in as many weeks, and the third in less than a year. The incident started at 1:19 this morning (1st March 2010) and lasted until 6.30 this morning. The incident was said to have occured on the 66kv line at Las Caletillas in Candelaria which caused it to shut down. This then caused the second station in Granadilla to also shut down leaving the whole of the island without electricity once again. The company (Unelco – REE) came under great criticism only two weeks ago when it emerged that a drip of water caused the whole island to lose power during a storm. The company has released a statement saying that is ‘investigating the issue and apologises for the inconvenience’.
