Weather alert update
The weather alert for all islands except Tenerife has been downgraded to ‘orange’ as the high winds of up to 170km/h have not materialised. However, Tenerife continues to be on maximum alert. All schools, colleges and universities remain closed and many governmental meetigns have been postponed. The airports of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma have cancelled numerous flights and the port of Agaete in Gran Canaria has been totally closed. From 05:00 until 11:00 the AEMET (MET office in Spain) registered 4.138 lightning strikes. There is still a ‘yellow’ weather alert for rain which could bring between 15 to 20 litres of water per square meter. The access roads to mount Teide remain closed.
