Unemployment in Canaries reaches 28.67%

unemployment in the Canary Islands has reached a historic high and is currently affecting 28.67%, the highest level ever recorded and leads the unemployment table in Spain.
In some areas the level of unemployment has risen by nearly 400% in the last three years. Worst hit is the area of Tinajo and Tias in Lanzarote where unemployment has reached 31.91% of the population, a rise of 375.3% since 2007. Also badly affected are the municipalities of Adeje, Arona, Guia de Isora and Santiago del Teide (in Tenerife) where unemployment has risen by 332.6% since 2007 (three years ago unemployment levels were 10.11% and are now 27.24%).
The highest level of unemployment is in Gran Canaria, in the municipalities of Firgas, Teror, Valleseco, Vega de San Mateo and Valsequillo, where unemployment levels have reached 33,47%.
