Tourism income falls in Canaries

The income per room/per day, known as REVPAR, has fallen below the National average in the Canary Islands. The National average is €55,90 while in the Canary Islands it was only €49.40 (figures taken during June, July and August 2010). These figures show an increase from last year (2009) of 5.8% although there is a clear continual decrease over the last years in all areas of the Canaries. One of the reasons given is that there are a lack of services in the destinations. By island, Fuerteventura has shown an increase of 19.5% on last years figures by reaching €56.50 and Tias in Lanzarote reaching €63.40 on the REVPAR scale. Adeje, in Tenerife, reached €52.90. On the other end of the scale was Puerto de La Cruz, in Tenerife which only acheived €26.70, far lower than the REVAPR average of €55.90
