Canary Islands end 2012 with 7.28% increase in unemployment

The number of unemployed people registered at the public employment offices in the Canary Islands last year increased by 7.28%, reaching a total of 284,915 unemployed people (19,346 more than in 2011) according to data released yesterday by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security. There was a slight decrease during December 2011 in the Canaries (compared to the previous month of November) when unemployment dropped by 1.42% (4,117 people).

Nationally, unemployment in Spain also dropped in December 2012 by 1.2%, but year on year there was an increase of 9.64% bringing the total number of unemployed people in Spain to 4,848,723.
