New British Airways London Gatwick – Tenerife routes from April 1st 2013
The finance vice-president and Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Carlos Alonso, the CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, Miguel Angel Santos, unveiled yesterday a new British Airways route linking London Gatwick with Tenerife South from April 1st 2013 with regular 5 weekly flights (in both directions). The aircraft will offer 134 seats of which 25 will be business class which, according to Mr. Alonso “not only reinforce flights to the island but also puts us in the premium segment”. The Minister of Tourism stressed that this new flight route will improve what Tenerife has to offer the UK market, and to connect the island with a “flag carrier” in the UK, and that “prestige to us in a very important in our main market”.

Carlos Alonso has said that this year the UK market “has done reasonably well” from the point of view of the number of visitors and spend, allowing Tenerife to “recover from the pre-crisis levels and hopefully improve with these new flights”. The new line between London and Tenerife will be accompanied by a set of promotional campaigns with British Airways in major British media, digital screens on the London Underground and in other parts of the UK. The new line tickets went on sale last month and in the first weeks has achieved an occupancy rate of over 70% of places available for the first few weeks of the connections.
