Amber and yellow weather warnings in place over the weekend

Spanish Met Office AEMET have issued a series of amber and orange weather warnings this weekend for snow, wind and rain.

The warnings are in place for most of the weekend, with some forecasts expecting the bad weather to ease by the start of the week.

Snow is forecast across much of Spain, with some expected in Madrid and Catalonia. The Balaeric islands is braced for high winds and waves.

Meanwhile in the Canaries, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote are in a yellow warning for winds and high waves.

In the Costa Blanca, high winds and rough seas are expected.

As a result, authorities are advising to take care in coastal areas, and not to drive in dangerous conditons.
