Oil slick reaches Tenerife beaches

Oil, believed to be from the sunken Russian factory ship the Oleg Naydenov, has washed up on the shores of Tenerife.

The confirmation came from Canarian President Carlos Alonso on Saturday.

An emergency cabinet meeting was held over the weekend to work on plans to deal with the slick, with clean up teams expected to arrive at Tenerife in the next few days.

The ship sank last week with over 1400 tonnes of fuel on-board, and has been leaking oil since it sunk.
