Illegal immigrants arrive on south coast Gran Canaria

23 people arrived late Monday night aboard a makeshift boat on the coast of Gran Canaria, near the Amadores beach on the south coast of the island according to sources within the Emergency Coordination Center and Security of the Canary Islands (CECOES).

The boat was occupied by 22 men and a woman, who is reported to be pregnant. All are reported to be in good health. The boat used to transport them from Africa was towed by Sea Rescue to the harbour of Arguineguin in the municipality of Mogan.

The alert was raised at 01.18 this morning when the boat was spotted around 150 meters from the coast. The woman was taken to a health center as a precaution due to her pregnancy.
