Tenerife Carnival Queen election gala ends in tragedy

Saida Maria Prieto, the 25 year old candidate who aspired to become Tenerifes 2013 Canrival Queen is to be moved to the Burns unit of the Virgen del Rocio hospital in Seville suffering from first and second degree burns to 40% of her body after fireworks attached to another persons dress went seriously wrong at the gala taking place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife last night (Wednesday, 7th February 2013).

The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez has stated that the girl’s family has requested that details of the girls health are not made public. Saida M. Prieto, who represented Centro Comercial Bulevar and Diario de Avisos and wore a dress called “Isis, queen of the gods” is currently at the Hospital Universitario de Canarias Four other people have received medical attention for first degree burns.
