Maspalomas to host ‘World Tourism Day’
Maspalomas (in the South of Gran Canaria) has been chosen by the World Tourism Organisation as the venue for the celebration of World Tourism Day on the 27th of September 2012. The president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, José Miguel Bravo de Laguna, and the mayor of San Bartolome de Tirajana, Aurelio Perez, made the announcement yesterday morning. It is the first time that Spain will have hosted the celebration of World Tourism Day. Mr. Bravo de Laguna stressed that this celebration will “enable Maspalomas to be known in all corners of the planet”. The celebration of World Tourism Day will coincide with both the 50th anniversary of the creation of Maspalomas Costa Canaria as well as the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the councils.
