Tourism spend in the Canaries up by over 13% in 2011

Tourists that have visited the Canary Islands have so far this year (2011) spent over €8 million on their visits to the islands, a 13.1% rise when compared to 2010, according to data released today by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade. According to figures from the Tourism Expenditure Survey (Egatur), Canary Islands are where there has been more growth in Spain, almost five points above the average increase recorded in Spain (8.4%). However, statistics show that tourism spending per person has decreased by 5.1% in the Canaries standing at €981 per person. In October alone, international tourists in the Canary Islands spent €942 million, an increase of 12.7% compared to the same month last year. In that month, the total expenditure per person fell by 2.6% to €994, but at the same time the daily expenditure per person rose by 6.6% to €108.
