Unemployment decreases in the Canary Islands during 3rd quarter

The number of unemployed people in the Canaries dropped by 3,100 people in the third quarter of this year (2011) and the unemployment rate in the islands still stands at 29.55%. The total number of unemployed people is 328,700, representing 18,400 unemployed more than a year ago (2010) which is an increase of 5.94% on 2010. These figures have been recently released by the National Statistics Institute. By provinces, unemployment reached a total of 179,000 people in Las Palmas (Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura), which represents 31.62% of the population of this province and 149,700 people in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro) which represents 27.41%.
