Maspalomas dunes sand erosion situation worsens
The erosion that the beach of Maspalomas is suffering appears to be much more serious than researchers had previously thought. The winds from the north-east provide little sand and that small amount that is left dissappears after just a few days. Last week a stretch alongside one of the kiosks was sealed off. The awaited arrival of the summer and the strength of winds was thought to help replenish the sand but none of that has happened. Seven months after the storms last winter, the Maspalomas dunes failed to recover the sand, simply because the the little amount that has been deposited has not been retained. People who live working off the beach do not really understand what is happening.
