Earthquake strikes in Murcia
Ten people, seven men and three women, have been killed in the Murcian town of Lorca in yesterdays earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude which struck at 18.47. A previous earthquake of 4.4 degrees hit the same area, at 17.05, but only caused material damage to the town, while the second, which was not a replica, had fatalities caused by landslides. Landslides also occurred in several other provinces and there was major damage to the Hospital Rafael Mendez, which was evacuated. Over 200 soldiers were called on to assist with the rescue. There is an emegency number, which is (+34) 900 11 78 16. Alicante and AlmerÃa have offered to send tents and trucks, blankets, food and beverages for the basic needs of the victims. The two earthquakes are due to a “horizontal slip fault” which is based on Lorca, according to geologists.
