€50 million investment for electricity supplies
The Deputy Minister of Industry of the Canarian Government has submitted to a declaration of public utility and environmental impact statement for 4 new electricity transmission lines and two substations in the south and the metropolitan area of Tenerife, promoted by Spanish Red Electrica (REE), which will invest €50 million in the project. The project intends to build two electricity substations to convert 220kV to 66 kv in Las Caletillas and El Rosario (Tenerife), at a cost of €23 million, the most expensive of the six projects. In the south of the island, particularly in the municipalities of Adeje and Arona, will install a double circuit 66 kv line in ‘Los Vallitos’. The metropolitan area accounts for 40% of the total energy demand in Tenerife and is powered by two substations (located in The Candelaria, next to the power plant in Las Caletillas and Geneto). The Deputy Minister of Industry, Juan Pedro Sanchez, emphasised the importance of implementing these projects to prevent further blackouts on the island and went on to say that REE are committed to carry out this work after major blackouts on the Island.
