Tragedy beach deaths in the Canaries
It has been a tragic day on the Canary Island beaches today (Monday 18th April 2011).
We earlier reported that two tourists had died on the Playa Amadores beach in Gran Canaria (see article here). The two people that drowned earlier this morning were two German tourists aged between 25-30 years old.
It has now been reported that a third person, a young 17 year old Canarian woman has also died in the same place at around 17:00, just 4 hours after the third accident.
There has also been a death on the Matagorda beach of Lanzarote today. A 60 year old German tourist drowned and another tourist, also German and of the same age has been hospitalised.

I saw the third death I watched her die and no one could help
The gates were only sealed with tape and now only after 3 people
Die in one day does anyone do anything about it, by placing a gate there
I can only hope that her mother can forgive the people who are ignorant enough to think that no one would climb over the tape, I threw some flowers over the wall along with my partner in to the sea.
This will haunt me for he rest of my life and can only hope that a serious lesson is learnt that the sea is very unforgiving my sympathy goes to the parents.
Yes but they were sealed and after she still decided to ignore the warnings I have no sympathy other than for her family. Witnessing and being involved in the first tragedy is unthinkable but to hear of a second in the same location beggars belief. Close that area down for good.
I was watching from the hotel above the incident with the 11:50 ~(2 german tourists). There was very little professional help available quickly.
However a notice on the steps there I am told does state that it is unsafe to swim in difficult conditions. That day the sea swell was very very bad (which I suspect is unusual for the area).
Its difficult to know how a 3rd person could have suffered the same fate after the steps were taped off.
Thoughts and prayers for the ppl who those who knew them.
was my last few hours of my holiday new something serious was going on saw all the emergeny services but left lastnight not knowing what had happened! only now have i heard the tragic news so sad.

sometimes accidents happen an nature was the cause of this one, yes the girls passed the police tape, but dont say no one has ever rebelled, it was very dangerous an those people were very silly to cross the barrier,i saw both accidents at that spot that day and even called to the girls to move just as they were swept away an with all my ability tried to help that girl, she had no hope,my heart goes out to her an the familys,i watched that girl die from a very close range and i cant get her poor face out of my head, my worse fear is to drown but adrenaline takes over an i was not scared for me but for that girl, i hope i never have to experience anything like this in my life…..
I WAS THERE WHEN THE THIRD TRAGEDY HAPPENED. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT IT WAS A DISGRACE THAT IT TOOK SO LONG FOR THE AIR AND SEA RESCUE TO ARRIVE. PUERTO RICO,AMADOROS AND MOGAN ARE SO CLOSE TOGETHER AND YET THERE IS NO RAPID RESPONSE UNIT IN THE EVENT OF A TRAGEDY THAT COULD BE IN A GIVEN AREA WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF AN ACCIDENT HAPPENING.I HAVE BEEN COMING TO PUERTO RICO WITH MY FAMILY FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS AND TO THINK THAT ONE OF THEM MIGHT BE IN THE SAME SITUATION AS THAT YOUNG GIRL AND NOT HAVE ANY HELP AT HAND WITHIN MINUTES WOULD TURN YOU OFF GOING AGAIN. WHEN YOU GO ON HOLIDAYS YOU EXPECT THAT IN THE EVENT OF SOMETHING HAPPENING THAT THERE SHOULD BE PROVISIONS MADE FOR THESE THINGS HAPPENING. AT LEAST IN IRELAND WE HAVE A FIRST CLASS RESCUE SERVICE AND I BELIEVE IF PUERTO RICO HAD THE SAME RESCUE SERVICE MAYBE THE THREE LIVES COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED.MAYBE THE LOSS OF THE THREE LIVES MIGHT PROMPT THE AUTHORITIES BETWEEN PUERTO RICO AND MOGAN TO CHANGE THEIR SYSTEM IN WHICH THEY RESCUE PEOPLE.
Now the problem is solved (at least I hope so). Local authorities (?) have built the wall in front of still existing stairs. Hope noone will try to jump-over it.
