February 2011 – Best month for tourism in 15 years

At the ITB in Berlin, where the Canary Islands have a stand promoting tourism to the German market, Paulino Rivero, president of the Canary Islands, made the announcement that during February 2011 the Canary Islands had the best month for tourism since 1996. February 2011 saw an increase of 22.4% when compared to the same month in 2010 and was quoted to say that this summer was going to be ‘positive’. A total of 932.699 tourists visited the islands last month (February 2011). Tenerife leads the ranking table with a total of 332.694 visitors during the month, while Gran Canaria saw the entrance of 289.573 tourists. Fuerteventura saw the highest rise with a 47.32% increase.
