International tourism up in Spain by 4.7% in January 2011

Spain received a total of 2.660.000 tourists in January 2011, a 4.7% increase on the same period last year. While tourism from Germany and France increased (5.5% and 0.6%), British tourism dropped by 5.3%. Italian tourism saw the highest rise with an increase of 36.1%. The Canary Islands saw 70.000 more tourists visiting the islands during the month of January 2011. During this period, hotel accommodation dropped by 0.8% while other accommodation (excluding hotels) increased by 14%
