Canaries amongst lowest paid wages in Spain

The Canary Islands are amongst the lowest paid (wages) in Spain, according to recent figures published.
The average wage in the Canary Islands is €1,506.70 per month. By comparison, wages in Madrid average at €2,136.06. The National average wage in the first quarter of 2010 has risen by 1% when compared to figures from last year, and is the lowest rise since figures began. Figures are based on a 35.5 hour week, although only 35.1 of these are worked due to holidays and fiestas.
