Unemployment continues to rise in the Canary Islands

Unemployment figures continue to rise in the Canary Islands again, this time the figures show an increase in 2% over similar figures for December 2008. In total, over 5.000 more people became unemployed in the Canaries in January 2010. The total unemployemnt figure for Spain is now 4.048.493, the highest figure since 1996. 253.930 of these are in the Canary Islands. By provinces, Tenerifes increase was 1.96% while Las Palmas increase was of 2.18%. When comparing figures month on month, In January 2010 there is an increase in unemployment of 17.57% over the same month in the previous year of 2009.
