Works commence on Los Gigantes (Tenerife) beach

The 1st November 2009 saw the collapse of part of the cliff above the beach of Los Guios (Los Gigantes, Tenerife) killing two people. Now, one year, four months and eight days after the collapse, works have begun work to repair and improve the part of the cliff.

The municipal government headed by Juan Gorrín reported that the work, with an estimated budget of €500,000 euros, began with the placement of  supports that are to be placed at a distance of between four and nine meters high, special mesh that has been previously transported from Santander.

The area affected by this action includes the access road to the beach, the strip where the restaurant is located and a portion of the beach.

The works have a lead time of two and half months and is expected to finish them before Easter 2011.

Juan Damián Gorrín is quoted to say “it is good news for the municipality that the work has begun, since the area is the main driver for tourism and trade, despite all the obstacles that we have had for funding.”
