Fires in Canary Islands cause evacuations

What started yesterday (29/08/2010) as a small fire in Tacoronte soon became a serious incident due to the high temperatures in Tenerife. Very soon the fire had reached El Sauzal and even the TF-5 motorway. The fire started at 06:00 and by 10:00 is was under control, but at 15:30 the flames started again and extended towards the coast at great speed. It was feared that the smoke could caused accidents on the northern motorway. At 17:00 the fire reached the first 3 houses in El Sauzal. There were further fears when the fire was thought to reach a petrol station in El Sauzal. In total there were 4 sources of fire which were finally under control at 21:00.
