Tax agency to find property tax evaders online

Spain’s Tax Agency has said that it is targeting the owners of apartments who placed rental adverts last year – including those on specialized websites such as Airbnb – in a crackdown on unreported income.

People lodging their tax returns on the new online tax return system have received messages saying that they have been found to be renting properties, and to make sure that any income generated by that process is registered

Nearly half (49.03%) of all home rentals in Spain, some 1.3 million properties, are not declared to the tax authorities.
