British cross Atlantic rowers rescued

Two British rowers who left the Canaries to row across the Atlantic have had to be rescued a week into their journey.

James Ketchell and Anthony Ward sent out a mayday call from their boat the Kitty Rouge after one of the pair suffered a suspected heart attack.

A passing container ship changed course to rescue them and an sea rescue helicopter was scrambled to take them ashore.

They were 900 miles south of El Hierro, just over a third of the way to South America.
