British woman and child seriously injured in bar explosion

A British woman and an 8 year old girl were seriously injured in an explosion yesterday afternoon in an terrace pool bar at the Bahia Principe hotel in the Playa Paraiso complex in Adeje, in the south of the island of Tenerife. Three other people suffered minor injuries.

The woman, a British national, suffered severe burns to the face and scalp and was taken to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in the north of the island. The minor, also of British origin, suffered burns to the neck and was taken to to the HOSPITEN hospital in the south of the island.

It is reported that the blast occurred when a heater, possibly in the buffet area, ran out of fuel and it’s gas bottle was being replaced.
