Boat crash off Los Gigantes Tenerife leaves one dead and three injured

A boat crash off the beach of Los Gigantes on the west coast of the Island of Tenerife has left a Belgian national, a resident on the island, dead and up to three others injured. The boat had left Puerto Colon harbour in Playa de Las Americas and was travelling past the Los Gigantes coastline when the accident happened.

The accident occurred yesterday (Saturday 15th December 2012) at around 2PM when a recreational boat crashed into a rock and then sunk. The cause of the crash is reported to be bad weather due to high winds and waves.

The passengers of the boat were assisted by another recretional boat before the emergency services arrived at the scene. One of the injured is in a serious condition and was flown by helicopter to hospital.
