La Palma experiences increase in foreign tourism

The island of La Palma has seen a sharp increase in foreign tourist arrivals. According to figures provided by the Ministry of Tourism for the Canary Islands, based on data from AENA, the island received 9,613 foreign visitors in July this year (2012) which represents an increase of 34.2% over the same period last year (2011). In the first 7 months of this year 10,620 passengers arrived on the island, an increase of 17.4%.

The other islands have not registered this significant increase, only Tenerife has managed to show an increase in foreign tourism in the first seven months of this year with 2,167,173 passengers visiting the island, an increase of 0.75% over 2011. In Lanzarote the decline during the first seven months of the year was 2.86%, in Gran Canaria, 1.84% and Fuerteventura, 9.26%. Looking at the number of foreign tourists last month (July 2012), Tenerife showed a decline of 4.72%, Fuerteventura, 10.14%, Gran Canaria, 0.66% while Lanzarote experienced an increase of 2.95%.
