Tenerife to hold hotel sector strikes during August

Unions in the hospitality sector in the province of Tenerife are due to strike on the 10th and 24th of August 2012, right in the middle of the peak tourism season in Tenerife, coinciding with the demonstrations due to take place in other tourist areas (the Balearic Islands, Alicante and Malaga).

The State Federation of Commerce, Catering and Tourism Workers Commissions (CCOO) agreed in a meeting held on Tuesday (26th June 2012) the timing of protests across Spain. These demonstrations will be announced today (Thursday 28th June 2012) at a joint press conference between the CCOO and UGT unions and will begin with a demonstration on the 20th July 2012 in all tourist areas and coinciding with the strike in the Balearic Islands.

In the province of Tenerife these demonstrations will occur in the area of Puerto de la Cruz, continuing with a schedule of protests that have been underway in the island, which began on June 13th 2012, this time in Playa de Las Americas.
